CITY'S AQUA CAMP BACK BY POPULAR DEMAND

City’s Aqua Camp Back by Popular Demand
Aqua Camp, an innovative program that introduces children to a variety of water sports, begins March 17 at the Parkway Family Aquatic Center (385 Park Way). This special Chula Vista Department of Recreation program, designed for kids 9 to 14 years old, offers an introduction to water polo, competitive swimming, diving and snorkeling. It also features a Junior Lifeguard training class that teaches basic water rescue techniques, First Aid and CPR.
The camp is timed to coincide with Spring Break-- March 17 through March 21—and includes a healthy living component that teaches children how to prepare simple, tasty, nutritious lunches at home.
Since obesity rates continue to soar among children and teenagers, it’s important to reach youngsters with valuable nutritional information and teach them how to live and eat healthy all day, every day. Convenience and lack of resources make fast food and unhealthy diets the reality for most Americans.
"Aqua Camp promotes a positive attitude about food, fitness and body image," said Elizabeth Kolata, Aquatics Supervisor at the Parkway Family Aquatic Center. "Kids

deserve the opportunity to benefit from a healthy lifestyle, and sometimes they just don't
have the tools or knowledge to make that happen. We want to help them make good choices.”
Aqua Camp will be offered Monday through Friday during Spring Break from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The cost - $115 per person - includes lunch and snacks. Extended camp hours are available from 7 - 9 a.m. and from 4- 6 p.m, $15 each two additional hours. A maximum of 20 campers will be accepted; all participants must be able to swim at least 25 yards.
The camp will include an introduction to “careers as a first responder,” which will feature police officers and firefighters sharing their experiences in the field of emergency response.
For more information, call the Parkway Family Aquatic Center at (619) 691-5088 or visit www.chulavistaca.gov/recreation. Registration for this program is available on-line and at the Aquatic Centers.
