MARCH PROGRAMS AND EVENTS FOR THE CHULA VISTA OLYMPIC TRAINING CENTER

March 2008 Programs and Events
 
Ongoing Resident Team Training (19 participants)
-          Daily training and instruction for resident archery squad
o        Participants include three-time Olympian Khatuna Lorig and 2000 Olympian Karen Scavotto
Olympic Selection Shoot, March 31-April 9 (42 participants)
-          Selection process for 2008 Olympic Team
-          Elite completion for top U.S. Archers as field will be narrowed to top eight athletes
 
ATHLETICS:
Ongoing Resident Team Training (28 participants)
-          Long-term training program for track and field athletes
o        Participants include 2004 Olympians Toby Stevenson , Tim Mack , Ian Waltz, Jarred Rome, Monique Henderson, Stacy Dragila, Jamie Nieto and Tora Harris
 
CANOE/KAYAK:
Sprint Resident Program (18 participants)
-          Long-term training program for sprint kayak athletes
o        Participants include 2004 Olympians Carrie Johnson , Jeff Smoke and Rami Zur
Olympic K-4 Select 2 Camp, February 8-April 6 (1 participant)
-          Evaluate K-4 boat combinations to determine squad for 2008 Continental Olympic Qualifier
Olympic Prep Mini Camp, March 6-14 (3 participants)
-          Short term, warm-weather training for canoe athletes
 
CYCLING:
BMX Resident Team Training (7 participants)
-          Long-term training program for Men’s and Women’s BMX athletes
o        Participants include Steven Cisar, Mike Day, Amanda Geving, Kim Hayashi, Jill Kintner and Arielle Martin
 
FIELD HOCKEY:
Women’s Resident Team Training (30 participants)
-          Long-term training program for Women’s National Field Hockey Team
 
INTERNATIONAL PROGRAMS:
Senegal Kayak Program, January 1-August 31 (1 participant)
-          Long-term international training program for Assane Fall, sprint kayak athlete from Senegal
o        Fall recently competed at the African Championships and took second place, qualifying himself to the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing
Hong Kong Track and Field Program, January 1-August 31 (1 participant)
-          Long-term international training program for Tang Yik Chun, a sprinter from Hong Kong
Czech Canoe Training Camp, February 24-March 13 (3 participants)
-          Warm-weather training for Czech Canoists and coach
Hungarian Women’s Kayak Training, February 29-April 1 (9 participants)
-          Warm-weather training for Hungarian Women’s Kayak Team
Argentina Women’s Field Hockey Training, March 29-April 7 (23 participants)
-          Friendly training and competition between U.S. and Argentina Women’s Field Hockey Teams
 
PARALYMPIC SPORTS:
Track and Field Resident Team Training (15 participants)
-          Long-term training program for Paralympic track and field athletes
o        Participants include 2004 Paralympians Marlon Shirley, April Holmes , Jeff Skiba , Nelacey Porter , Royal Mitchell and Casey Tibbs
Men’s Soccer Team Training, March 7-16 (20 participants)
-          Regular team training for Men’s Paralympic Soccer Team
Archery Training Camp, March 15-20 (13 participants)
-          High performance training camp to prepare Paralympic Archery Team for 2008 competitions
 
ROWING:
Men’s & Women’s Sweep/Scull Camp, November 1-April 1 (71 participants)
-          Warm-weather winter training for U.S. Men’s & Women’s National Team Rowers
 
RUGBY:
Men’s Seven’s Training Camp, March 15-23 (25 participants)
-          Prepare team for iRB Sevens World Series in Hong Kong
  
TRIATHLON:
Triathlon Spring Training Camp, February 26-April 26 (6 participants)
-          Warm weather, sea-level training for Elite Triathletes
 
SPECIAL EVENTS
AYSO Soccer Tryouts, March 8-9 (130 participants)
-          Soccer team selections for area teams
Nomads Soccer Club, March 15-23 (150 participants)
-          Local soccer tournament
 
 
UPCOMING COMMUNITY APPEARANCES:
 
  • Various Olympic hopefuls will speak to Chula Vista Elementary School Classes during their Exercise the Dream sessions at the Olympic Training Center.  Dates: March 4, 6, 13
