WRITER UNBLOCKED - THE INTRODUCTIONS PLEASE

WRITER UNBLOCKED

The Introductions Please

Jeri Jacquin

Oh no - here it comes, another column written by some crazy lady with writers block giving unsolicited opinion on this life we all live. Okay, that’s fair, accept if I may add in my own defense, I am a gal (note I don’t argue the ‘crazy’ point) who usually says what’s on her mind, is fair about it and remembers that others may be thinking the exact same thing.
Why don’t they write it down?  Simple, because they are caught in traffic off the I-5 during rush hour and can’t find a pen to write the thought down.  Even if you did find the pen, it usually doesn’t work – and you know I’m right! Now sigh in agreement and make a mental note to replace the worthless pen in your car.
That is life in San Diego. We have a unique personal style unto ourselves and are quite proud of it. In this big vast beautiful city are all the small suburbs that make up who we are, what we believe, what we think, how we play and how we live. From the Southbay to North County and out to the East County, this is our San Diego and we stir the multicultural cooking pot constantly creating and recreating ways to make our lives spicy and exceptional.
So who am I? Just a red X on the map of this planet that tells you ‘I am here’. I am also blessed enough to document the everyday events that might otherwise go unobserved and make note of the universal speed bumps we all hit on a regular basis.
I will attempt do this with humor, self righteous indignation on behalf of the masses, hanging my head out the proverbial window to yell “We’re mad as hell and we are not going to take it anymore”, lay out my heart occasionally and search for the truth that seems so hard to find lately.
I will share with you all the inner ramblings I normally just write in a composition book and put on the shelf to collect dust. Tell you about all the “hmmm’s” that slosh around in the jello’d gray matter of my skull. In that winding vortex that is my cranium are all the words I get to chose from to draw you the big picture. My hope is that you enjoy the sketch, sometimes experience the real, feel something, and see the humor in the safe harbor of laughter.
The best part of this is that I will also tell you about those around me that make my life a huge lesson worth learning. I will share the stories of people I know and love, people I meet, places to go in our city, where to find the unusual hidden in the background of usual, and why there is so much gum under the trolley seats. Oh, my apologies, that’s one of my random thoughts escaping early.
Let us start this literary relationship with an open mind and a light heart. Take my observations with a grain of salt, a dash of humor, a cleansing tear or two, and a few exclamations of ‘wow, someone has finally said it!’  I will link each word from my head to my fingertips, through my keyboard to you, dear reader, and it is a duty that I will not take lightly. I am your humble word-servant and officially - writer unblocked!
