Tijuana Mayor to be Honored in Chula Vista
Tuesday is Proclaimed Mayor Kurt Honold Day
At its regular meeting October 16, the Chula Vista City Council will honor Tijuana Mayor Kurt Honold for his efforts to strengthen relationships among border cities. Honold will be in Council Chambers to receive a proclamation declaring this Tuesday Mayor Kurt Honold Day in the City of Chula Vista.
Honold, a successful businessman and former telecommunications executive, took office last February when his predecessor, Jorge Hank Rhon, stepped down to run for governor of Baja California. Soon after taking office, Honold convened the first City of Tijuana bi-national strategic planning conference focused on trade, economic development, infrastructure and efficient border crossings.
“Although he’s been in office a short time, Mayor Honold has earned my admiration,” said Chula Vista City Council member Rudy Ramirez. “He’s taken a leadership role in border issues, and he has shown an intense interest in promoting cross border business relationships.”
Honold’s recognition by the Chula Vista City Council is a gesture of cross border co-operation and friendship.
“Chula Vista is positioned, geographically, to really take advantage of international trade and everything that comes from that,” noted Ramirez. “We’re looking forward to a relationship that benefits communities on both sides of the border.” |
