Summer Olympic Sports

ARCHERY

  • Ongoing Resident Team Training –(14 members)

Resident Jake Kaminski recently took 1st place at the World Archery Trails and Olympian Brady Ellison took 1st place at the World Indoor Archery Challenge. The Resident Women also did well, Heather Koehl placed 2nd and Kristin Braun 3rd at the World Archery Trails both held March 2010.

  • Roadrunner Community Development Archery Club- Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays

ATHLETICS

  • Ongoing Resident Team Training-(48 members)

Congratulations to the Athletes from CVOTC who made Team USA at the 2010 World Indoor Championships in Doha, Qatar, March 12-14, 2010; Olympian Tora Harris (High Jump), Olympian Tim Mack (Pole Vault) Chelsea Johnson (Pole Vault), Melinda Owen (Pole Vault), Brianna Glen (Long Jump), Anna Pierce (800m), and Sara Hall (300m).

  • Marathon and Distance Running Team Members  4/19 /2010– 5/2/2010 ( 8 members)
  • International Team training from the United Kingdom, Norway, Poland and Germany.
  • Chula Vista Track Club hosted by Olympians Stacy Dragila and Ian Waltz - weekends

CANOE/KAYAK

  • Ongoing Resident Team Training –(11 members)

Kayak team training for competitions leading up to London 2012.

  • International teams from Czech, and Slovakia.

§         US National Sprint Team Trails will be held at the OTC on April 23 and 24.

 

 

CYCLING

  • Ongoing Resident Team Training for BMX-(7 members)

- Prep for Woman’s UCI World Cup Event Madrid, Spain.

The USA Cycling BMX Woman’s Development Program recently selected Arielle Martin, Amanda Geving, Brooke Crain, and Ashley Verhagen to the USA Cycling's funded team for the Supercross World Cup in Madrid, Spain March 26-27.

§         Supercross Jr. Development Camp- 24 members

§         International Training Camp from Denmark- 4/12 – 4/21

 

FIELD HOCKEY

  • Resident Women’s National Team Training – 33 members
  • Field Hockey U 21 camp – 15 members 4/15-4/18
  • ATA  Holding Woman’s Field Hockey World Cup Qualification tournament

ROWING

  • Ongoing Resident Team Training – 8 members

SPECIAL EVENTS:

ATA  Holding Woman’s Field Hockey World Cup Qualification tournament 

March 26- April 3. PUBLIC WELCOME – tickets are $5.00 per game. The national teams from Belgium, Canada, France, Korea, and Mexico will be at the CVOTC to compete for a spot at the World Cup .

 

The USA Field Hockey Woman’s National Team recently welcomed two of the top field hockey nations to the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista (CVOTC) January 24 – February 4. The series featured six games, three against China and three against the Netherlands- winners of the gold and silver medals, respectively, at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing. The series helped prepare the US Team for the ATA Holding 2010 Woman’s Cup Qualifier at the CVOTC.

COMMUNITY PROGRAMS

 

U.S. Olympic Training Center Tour program:

Guests can visit the Olympic Training Center (OTC) and receive a guided tour of the complex Saturdays at 11:00am, learn about the life of the athlete, the goals and functioning of the OTC. For more information go to www.teamusa.org.

 

Roadrunner Archery Club:

Hands down the best Archery club you will find. Members train with athletes that live and train at the OTC under the Supervision of the Olympic Coach. Futures Field Hockey:

 USA Field Hockey runs the FUTURES program to introduce and train kids in the sport of Field Hockey. Go to  http://www.usfieldhockey.com/  to get started.

 

BMX development program: Join the excitement of one of the newest Olympic Sports, BMX.  Each Tuesday and Saturday local athletes can join in the fun riding the BMX development course. Practice occurs Tuesday’s from 3:00pm – 5:00pm and Saturdays from 12:00pm- 2:00pm with racing at 2:00pm. For more information go to www.futurebmx.com or call   619-456-7553.

 

Track and Field Development program: Olympians Stacy Dragila and Ian Waltz host local kids on the track each weekend to learn the disciplines of throwing, running and jumping. For more information go to www.altiustc.com.

 

Chula Vista Community Fun Run:

An annual 5k Fun Run with a course that raises money for CV community programs and generates awareness about the Olympic Training Center.  Participants run through the Olympic Village. For more information go to www.chulavista.gov/goto/funrun.com
