CHULA VISTA, Calif. – With the USA Track & Field Olympic Trials now complete, several athletes will return to the Olympic Training Center to get final preparations in place before heading to Beijing , China for the Olympic Games.
Four Resident Athletes from the Track & Field Team earned a trip to Beijing after competing in the US Olympic Trials in Eugene , Oregon .
Alice Schmidt earned a trip to Beijing after finishing second in the Women’s 800m with a final time of 2:00.46. Long Jumper Trevell Quinley claimed first place and a spot on the U.S. Olympic Team after jumping 8.36m/27-05.25 in the Men’s Long Jump. Ian Waltz will head to the second Olympic Games of his career after winning the Men’s Discus with a throw of 65.87m/216-01, and Mike Hazle will compete in the Men’s Javelin in Beijing, after placing second with a throw of 75.76m/248-07.
San Diego native Monique Henderson will also be a likely member of the Women’s 4x400m relay team after finishing fourth in the women’s 400m with a time of 50.98.
