Applications are currently being accepted for the Spring Lifeguard Academy, which begins March 24 at the Loma Verde Family Aquatic Center, 1420 Loma Lane. Participants must be at least 15 years of age by April 6, 2007. Swimming prerequisite skills must be demonstrated on the first day of class.
The week-long lifeguard training course is offered at a 75% discount. The $60 fee includes books and materials and is offered by the City of Chula Vista and the American Red Cross.
“The value of this program is unparalleled because it provides an opportunity to underprivileged youth and minorities who would otherwise be less likely to pursue a job in aquatics,” said Aquatics Supervisor Manuel Gonzalez. “This is one way that as an organization we can continue to make strides toward having an aquatic workforce that reflects the demographic composition of the community that we serve.”
