Chula Vista — November 6, 2026. Golfers have raised concerns about the conditions of the city-owned Chula Vista Golf Course near Rohr Park, pointing to worn fairways, aging irrigation equipment and damage associated with flooding along the Sweetwater River channel. inewsource reported on the issue October 1, including concerns from local golfers and responses from city officials.

What golfers say needs attention

Local players described bare or patchy fairways and irrigation problems. Mark Liuag, president of the Chula Vista Men’s Golf Club, identified flooding as a particularly serious long-term concern: the course lies in a floodplain, and repeated inundation has affected fairways, irrigation pipes and other facilities.

City and contractor responsibilities

The golf course is city-owned and operated by a contractor. The city told inewsource that improvements have been made and that $200,000 for tees and fairways was included in the current capital improvement program. City representatives also indicated there were no plans to transfer course oversight to the Parks and Recreation Department.

What residents should watch

Questions remain about how the city and county will address Sweetwater River drainage, what improvements will be funded, and how golfers will be informed about maintenance. These are concerns raised by residents and golfers, not an announcement of an approved flood-mitigation project.
