AI Use & Technology Policy

ChulaVista.com may use artificial intelligence as a tool, but not as a substitute for verification or editorial responsibility.

Permitted uses

AI tools may assist with transcription, summarization, research organization, headline ideas, editing, translation support, data cleanup, draft development and other production tasks.

Human responsibility

A human contributor or editor remains responsible for the final published work. Names, dates, quotations, public records, statistics, locations and other material factual claims should be checked against reliable sources before publication.

No fabricated reporting

AI-generated quotes, invented interviews, fabricated sources, fictional eyewitness accounts or made-up facts are prohibited. If a tool cannot verify a fact, uncertainty must not be hidden behind confident language.

Source material

AI may help summarize source material, but contributors should review the underlying source whenever practical, especially for consequential claims involving public safety, government, elections, legal matters, health, finance or allegations of wrongdoing.

Disclosure

Routine editing assistance does not necessarily require a disclosure. When AI materially generates or transforms editorial content in a way readers would reasonably consider important, editors may add an explanatory note.

Images and media

Synthetic images should not be presented as documentary photographs of real events. When generated or materially altered media is used for illustration, it should be labeled appropriately.

Privacy

Contributors should not upload confidential, legally restricted or unnecessarily sensitive personal information into third-party AI systems.

The standard is simple: AI may accelerate the work. It does not inherit responsibility for the work.
