Family Picnics, Playgrounds & Park Reservations in Chula Vista

Planning a family picnic, birthday gathering or weekend outdoors in Chula Vista? The city’s park system offers playgrounds, picnic areas, gazebos, fields and outdoor gathering spaces. Check specific park amenities before you go.

When do you need a reservation?

A reservation is required for groups of 25 or more and for groups of any size using vendors such as bounce houses, soft-play equipment or catered services. For smaller gatherings without vendors, unreserved gazebos and picnic areas are generally first-come, first-served. You must be at least 21 to reserve.

How far ahead should you book?

Book at least seven days in advance; reservations can be made up to six months ahead. Bring your permit to the park. Reservations for picnic facilities do not include nearby fields or courts.

Barbecues, shade and amenities

Charcoal is permitted only in designated city park barbecue grills. Propane grills are allowed under city rules; deep fryers and additional charcoal grills are prohibited. No gazebo electricity is supplied. Before making plans, verify restrooms, shade, playgrounds and BBQ equipment for your specific park.
