Larry Millete Sentenced to 27 Years to Life in Murder of Chula Vista Mother Maya Millete

CHULA VISTA — November 3, 2026. More than five years after May “Maya” Millete disappeared from her Chula Vista home, her husband Larry Millete has been sentenced to a total of 27 years to life in state prison for her murder and a separate weapons offense. The sentence was imposed Monday, November 2, in San Diego Superior Court.

In July, a jury convicted Larry Millete of first-degree murder. Judge Enrique Camarena imposed 25 years to life for that conviction, plus a consecutive two-year term for an assault-weapon possession charge to which Millete pleaded guilty after trial.

Maya’s family still seeks answers

Maya, a mother of three, was last seen at the family’s Chula Vista home on January 7, 2021. Her remains have never been recovered. At sentencing, relatives described years of uncertainty and pleaded for information that would allow them to bring her home and lay her to rest.

Two of the couple’s daughters also addressed the court, describing the painful reality of grieving their mother while continuing to love their father. Maya’s sister Maricris Drouaillet, who helped lead searches after the disappearance, again asked Larry Millete to disclose where Maya is.

What the court decided

Prosecutors argued at trial that Larry Millete killed his wife amid a deteriorating marriage and her plans for divorce. The case relied substantially on circumstantial evidence, including evidence about his conduct and movements around the time she disappeared. The defense challenged the prosecution’s interpretation and argued the evidence did not establish murder beyond a reasonable doubt. Jurors convicted him.

At the November 2 hearing, the judge denied a defense request for a new trial. Larry Millete maintained his denial of responsibility. The court also imposed restrictions on his contact with the children, according to courtroom reporting.

A Chula Vista family still waiting to bring Maya home

The prison sentence is a major milestone in a case that deeply affected Chula Vista and drew sustained attention throughout San Diego County. It does not resolve the family’s most painful unanswered question: where Maya’s remains are located.

ChulaVista.com recognizes the work of investigators, prosecutors, search volunteers and community members who kept attention on Maya’s disappearance. Above all, this story remains about Maya and the loved ones still seeking a chance to say goodbye.
