Chula Vista Election Update: Tamayo Concedes Mayoral Race to McCann

Update, November 5: Francisco Tamayo told KPBS that he called Mayor John McCann on election night to concede the Chula Vista mayoral race. KPBS has called the contest for McCann, putting the incumbent on course for a second term.

In its November 4 report, KPBS said Tamayo acknowledged McCann’s record while urging stronger support for the city’s immigrant community. McCann said he looked forward to continuing work with colleagues and regional partners.

Where to follow official results

A candidate’s concession and a news organization’s race call are separate from election certification. For current totals and the status of the canvass, use the San Diego County Registrar of Voters and select the November 3, 2026 election results. Check the timestamp and certification status on the county report.

The Registrar also provides a separate Track Your Ballot service for voters checking their own ballots.
