Chula Vista Officer Granted Diversion in Misdemeanor Manslaughter Case

Judge grants misdemeanor diversion to Chula Vista police officer

A judge has granted Chula Vista police officer Johan Jacobo misdemeanor diversion in the case stemming from a June 2025 crash that killed motorcyclist Simon Robledo.

ABC 10News reported that prosecutors opposed diversion, while the court approved a 24-month program that can lead to dismissal of the misdemeanor manslaughter charge if Jacobo completes all required terms.

Conditions of diversion

According to the report, the court-ordered conditions include 150 hours of volunteer work, defensive-driving training, restitution, therapy and an apology letter.

If Jacobo successfully completes the diversion program over 24 months, the misdemeanor case can be dismissed.

Family lawsuit remains separate

Robledo’s family has also filed a wrongful-death lawsuit against Jacobo and the City of Chula Vista. That civil case is separate from the misdemeanor criminal proceeding.

ChulaVista.com will continue to follow both the criminal diversion process and any major developments in the civil case.
