Chula Vista Elementary School District schools will move recess, lunch and physical education indoors through Thursday, October 8, as the district responds to high temperatures across the region.
In an October 5 announcement, CVESD said all its schools will follow a rainy-day schedule. In this case, that means moving those activities inside because of heat.
What families should know
The district says staff will monitor students and provide extra water and rest breaks throughout the day. Families are asked to send children in lightweight, comfortable clothing, provide extra drinking water and use sunscreen when appropriate.
The announcement references elevated temperatures expected through 8 p.m. on October 8, 2026. Families should watch for updates from their individual school about daily arrangements.
The notice applies to CVESD schools; it does not announce a citywide school closure.
