Chula Vista remains under an Extreme Heat Warning as unusually hot conditions continue across San Diego County.
The National Weather Service said Tuesday morning that the warning remains in effect for San Diego County coastal areas, including Chula Vista, until 8 p.m. Thursday.
Forecasters expect high temperatures from the mid-80s and lower 90s near the beaches to the mid-90s and around 100 degrees on mesas and other higher coastal terrain. Overnight temperatures are also expected to remain unusually warm.
The heat follows a record-setting day in Chula Vista last week, when the city reached 99 degrees.
The National Weather Service warns that heat-related illnesses increase significantly during extreme heat events. Residents should limit strenuous outdoor activity during the hottest part of the day, drink plenty of water and check on older adults, children and others who may be especially vulnerable to heat.
Never leave children or pets unattended in a parked vehicle, even for a short period.
The warning is currently scheduled to expire at 8 p.m. Thursday, October 8.
